"Screamer" |
| Elk are such awe-inspiring creatures, majestic, and yet the ghosts of the woods. With bulls weighing over a thousand pounds, they move silently through the forest and without effort disappear over the mountains. During the rut, both mature as well as younger bulls "bugle". Starting with a near growl, the notes climb higher and higher to an eerie, unbelievable, unmistakable sound, which filters through the trees almost taking on an existence of it's own. They are calling the cows, marking their territory, showing off, and undoubtably making the statement It is a good day to be the bull of the woods. To hear it is special, to witness it, an honor. It is an experience remembered forever. |
